4. Registering for taxes

Registering for taxes

Where you have set up a new company, or need to make a new type of tax return, such as payroll or VAT, you will need to register for tax with HMRC. Where we are engaged to register you for tax we will do this on your behalf. If however you have chosen to do this yourself you can find some helpful notes below:

Most registering for taxes can be done online.

When your company is created, HMRC will normally send you a notice that you have been registered for Corporation Tax. Occasionally they don’t, however, and so if you’ve not received that notice, you will need to ensure you are registered correctly.

If you’ve ever had to submit a corporation tax return, then you are already registered for Corporation Tax.

If you do need to register for Corporation Tax you can find more information here:

You may also need to register for self-assessment and register as an employer

I strongly recommend that you set yourself up with the personal tax account for you as an individual, and a business tax account for your business
